BMAT Preparation and Exam

The Biomedical Admissions Test (BMAT) is required by 10 universities for entry into a medicine, dentistry or veterinary science degree programme. It is a 2 hours paper based test that is offered once a year in early November or March for University of Leiden applicants.

  • University of Malaya (Malaysia) – February exam only

The BMAT test consists of three sections

Aptitude & Skills35 questions
Questions cover Problem Solving, Understanding Arguments and Data Analysis & Inference. Questions are multiple choice, with the student being asked to select either one or multiple answers from the ones provided.
60 minutes1-9
Scientific Knowledge & Application27 questions
This section covers the three sciences plus maths (GCSE level). Answers will either be multiple choice, fill-in-the-blank, free response, or matching (typically used for labelling a picture, for example parts of the human body).
30 minutes1-9
Writing1 question (from a choice of 4)
Students have 1 page of A4 paper to answer the essay prompt. Essay topics are science-based.

Key dates for the BMAT

2018 October Exam:

1st September – Registration begins
1st October – Closing date for standard registrations
15th October (at 5pm) – Closing date for late-fee BMAT registrations
31st October – BMAT 2018 test day
23rd November – BMAT results released
30th November – Deadline for querying BMAT results
